We started thinking about long-term travel one cold winter afternoon, or maybe one hot July evening sitting with a bottle of wine on the front porch or…….maybe that one time when we went to breakfast at Javier & C’s (now just Javier’s)? Truthfully, we think we started by talking about taking the summer off…which then changed to six months…and hell, if you’re taking six months, why not a year?
We originally wanted to start our trip in 2021 but the Covid train derailed that plan for various reasons and so 2023 became the year we could finally go. The plan is to travel for a year ~ starting July 1st 2023 and ending mid-June 2024. We have four legs ~ the North American #1 leg, (July 1 through September 13), the Western Europe leg, (September 14 through December 28), the Southeast Asia/Australia/New Zealand/Japan leg, (December 29 through April 15-ish) and finally, the North American #2 leg, (April 16 through mid June 2024). We’ll share many more details about our routes and timing as we go along, but generally, that’s the plan. (We have to pinch ourselves sometimes……WE are the ones actually doing this ~ not some people we know or know of!)
We’ve never written a blog before, but the general idea is to share our experiences and pictures with our friends and family. A fiancee of a friend came up with a fun idea to put a spin on the word “meander” by modifying it to “MEandHER”. We loved that idea because if you know us you know that we approach a problem from almost exact opposite perspectives and 99.9% of the time come to the same exact solution. This is true for our finances, our home life and we are almost certain it will be true on this trip.
We plaaaaan to post once or twice a week, but it could be more or less than that. We will post when we have WiFi and that won’t be all the time so don’t worry about us if you haven’t seen a post for a minute.
Finally, thanks for joining us on this wild ride. We know that your love and support go with us. We will think of you often as we make our circumnavigation on our trip around the sun.
