The plan changed with our cats. Our friend Deb and her partner Ken said they would take both Johann and Sebastian so that they wouldn’t have to be separated. We accepted their offer. We are incredibly grateful to Jeanne who was making space in her life to take on Johann, but we felt that with all of the other changes, being able to keep the boys together would be the best option for them.

This afternoon we took them to Deb and Ken’s house along with all of their things: blankets, beds, food, water fountain, litter box. All the things. All of those things now missing from our house, making it feel even more empty.
I find myself looking for them. Watching to see if they come out to sit with us on the porch, checking to see if they need more food, or to turn their heated blanket back on.
We knew this would be the hardest part. We’ve had them for 19 years. Our little dudes with their own unique personalities, sometimes annoying, but mostly affectionate and so very sweet.
On the one hand it feels like a betrayal, but on the other we know there is no better situation we could put them in. I find some solace in that…but mostly I’m a bit of a mess.
