Week #1 ~ 3 States, 1 National Park, 1 Recreation Area, 1 major holiday, 1,180 miles currently $350 under our budget of $250/day.
This has been a shakedown week, a meltdown week and a decompression week all rolled into one.
Shakedown ~ some of our gear worked just as intended, some of it didn’t….and Marla’s camp chair finally broke all the way so we had to get a new one. Additionally, we for sure have not figured out how to load the car for optimal access to all the various things when we want them. The common question this week has been “Where is ___________?” The accompanying answer has typically been “In there somewhere but I don’t know where exactly.”
Meltdown ~ The pressure to have an “epic” day every day because “when are we ever going to get this opportunity again?” led to at least one crying jag from Marla and a couple of misunderstandings between the two of us.
Decompression ~ dark sky parks are the bomb! We know it’s not for everyone, but sitting around a campfire talking about pretty much nothing or discussing the “Burning Questions” card of the day (Thanks Gloria) has been a good way to decompress from the stress of moving/packing from the house and getting ready for this trip…
