Week #13 ~ Recap

831 miles, 2 countries, 2 cities, 1 concentration camp, 2 walking tours, 1 gigantic beer festival, 2 hotels, walking an average of 11,300 steps per day, and $129.45 UNDER budget.

Chips and coke for dinner after a 13 hour travel day

From Munich to Amsterdam ~ from a city with a historic glockenspiel and a palace modeled after Versailles, to a city with some of the world’s most famous art. From the worlds biggest beer festival to the world’s biggest marijuana party. From a countryside of hops, barley and corn production, to a countryside of cows and cheese. From the land of roast meats and warm potato salad to a city awash with fried food yumminess and good beer.

Our travel day to Amsterdam was a 13 hour adventure, Train #1 from our hotel to Munich was late getting to Munich so missed train #2 by 3 minutes. Booked another train with our Eurail pass app ~ easy peasy. New train #2 was 30 minutes late so back to the Eurail pass to book a new train #3. Train #3 was interrupted at the German/Netherlands border for some reason we still don’t understand, so we had to take a 30 minute bus ride to Arnhem Central Station, finally in The Netherlands. Train #4 took us to Amsterdam and finally, train #5 brought us to within two blocks of our hotel. Exhaustion and the need to stop going made the dinner choice simple ~ chips and coke from the vending machine!

Hopefully there won’t be many more travel days like that one, but if there are I hope there are chips and coke from the vending machine! Week 14: Amsterdam!
