Week #20 ~ Recap

477 miles, 4 towns, 1 major city, 6 train rides, 5 or 6 more tiramisus, 4,000 stairs (maybe not that many but it sure felt that way), 2 UNESCO world heritage sites, 1 duomo tour, 1 Michelangelo sculpture, 1 saint’s sanctuary, $649.40 UNDER budget.

The week started in the Cinque Terre and ended in the Eternal City of Rome. In between we toured Siena with a Rick Steves guided walking tour and ate a lot of pasta.

Boats outnumber cars in the Cinque Terre, (logically), and only locals can drive in Siena ~ so coming to traffic heavy Rome was a real assault on the senses. There is a tram stop right outside of our building and every time the tram passes by the whole place shakes.

We have an AirB&B in Rome, so cooking our own food is once again in the plan after eating at restaurants for all of our meals in Cinque Terre and Siena. We’re in Rome ten days, so our next weekly recap will probably just include all of the various ruins we’ve seen so far. Hope you enjoy it!
