2 countries (the Vatican is small but mighty!), 1 major American Holiday, 3 museums, 4 dinners cooked at home, 1 concert, 3 walking tours, 1 grand cathedral, 1 Swiss guard, 1 rest day, 1 afternoon spent in awe at the home of the Catholic Church, 3 protests, approximately 8 arancini from the street food vendor around the corner from our house, and…$1141.58 UNDER budget!
This week, we were Romans. We pretended for a bit that we lived in Rome in our top-floor AirB&B in the Trastevere neighborhood. The neighborhood had everything we needed, including an amazing selection of cheese and charcuterie shops, wine shops, fresh produce markets, and regular grocery stores. Our very significant below budget number for Week 21 is because we were able to live like locals that week cooking at home.
We didn’t join the PETA protest, or the teacher’s protest at the Ministry of Education across from our house, and we were praying that the transportation worker’s protest wouldn’t effect our trip to Naples, but we saw the Italians protesting with their flags and slogans and music!
We’ll write more about Rome in our destinations post. We leave for Naples, our last stop in Italy, at the end of the week! Pompeii here we come!
