Week #27 ~ Recap

1,543 miles driven, 1,314 miles flown, 10 states driven through, 3 hotels, 1 New Years Eve visit with a dear friend in Kansas City on the way to 1 family wedding in Wichita, 3 of Marla’s 5 siblings, 2 flights, 1 major surgery for a family member, 3 days of extra quality time with 1 sister and 1 nephew split between Sacramento and Soda Springs, California.

Week 27 saw us back on the road after a restful 18 days in Northern Virginia to celebrate the Christmas holidays. Driving on familiar roads and seeing delight in the faces of our family members has been such a gift! We didn’t think we were going to be able to attend the wedding in Kansas, so it was pretty amazing to be there. We are hopeful that we will remember this feeling of gratitude when we return from this leg later in the year. Until then……we’ll continue traveling.

We easily switched right back into traveling mode where we sleep in different places every couple of days and have to plan ahead for laundry. The ease of travel may be just because we understand the language and can read the road signs, but we are hopeful that our previous experiences on the road will make the next leg just that much easier.

This week is also the first time in 6 months Marla and I have spent any significant time apart. While spending every minute with each other can be intense, most days, we still enjoy each other and wouldn’t choose anything or anyone different.

Next week; Denver, where we drive less but connect with lots more friends and family. We also continue prepping for Southeast Asia (exchanging winter clothes for lighter clothes more appropriate for heat and humidity as well as purchasing anti-malaria pills) and planning our Australia/New Zealand stays (to caravan or not to caravan, that is the question). The big question is how much coffee will we consume while enjoying time here in Denver? I’m guessing a lot…….
