721 Kilometers, 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 1 museum, 1 national park, 13 temples, 1 water taxi, 1 rice barge dinner cruise, 2 night markets, UNDER budget by $186.78.

Sometimes when you drive up to the top of a mountain, all you see is clouds. We drove to the highest point in Thailand in Doi (Mount) Inthanon National Park and that’s what we saw…..clouds. The view was beautiful somewhere behind those clouds, but the fog hid the terraced rice paddies, forest and long views the place is famous for. Heading down the mountain we got out of the car for a stroll in the rainforest, saw a beautiful waterfall and had amazing soup…..all before lunch!
The rest of the week was a series of temple ruins and more amazing food as we followed the trail of Thai history towards Bangkok. Amazing, cool, neat, historic ~ all words I think of when looking back at the time spent exploring that history in Sukhothai and Ayutthaya.
Night markets are a thing here ~ probably to help avoid the heat of the daytime ~ so we strolled around the night market in Sukhothai. The markets offer lots of food, clothes, plush toys, tourist junk, jewelry, art and almost anything else you can carry and sell.
We ended the week back in Bangkok where we began our Thailand adventure 10 days ago. The weather was definitely different than Chiang Mai, but exactly what we expected in this region ~ hot and muggy. Lots of water and canals and boats and bridges, but surprisingly few bugs, so that’s a plus.
Next week ~ our final days in Bangkok with more exploration, then on to Cambodia for 13 days!
