Week #49 – 52 ~ Recap

Today marks the end of Week #52. We originally planned to be on the road until now, but back in February when we were planning out May, we realized we were just wasting time until we were able to move back into our house on July 1. So we contacted our renters and they were interested in terminating their lease early and we started moving back in on June 1st.

It’s kind of weird moving back into your house where someone else has lived for the last year. The house itself was turned back to us in fine shape, but the yard that Marla has meticulously cultivated and fussed over for the last 20 years was a complete disaster. We didn’t expect the tenants to do much with it, but we didn’t realize we would return to the Little Shop of Horrors scenario that we did.

Our yard is looking much more “normal” with less weeds and more flowers

Before we left, we gave away about 2/3 of our furniture with the intention of buying new “grown up” furniture when we returned. That’s still the plan, but furniture purchasing has gone slowly because neither of us care to shop. We got the important stuff: a new grill, a new mattress, and a new office chair because Erin starts working again on July 10th (what?!) and our current office chair situation just won’t do.

Johann adjusted quickly to being back in our home

Our friends Deb and Ken took amazing care of our old boy Johann who rejoined our home on June 9th. At first we worried he wouldn’t remember the house, but he settled in quickly and for the time, has everything he needs in our bedroom.

Our latest addition Charlie, has big puppy eyes, and sharp puppy teeth!

We had one more major addition, a puppy named Charlie, joined our family on June 15th. Charlie came from a pregnant pup who showed up at Marla’s cousin Beth’s farm back in March. Charlie was born on the same day Sebastian passed, April 18th. Most auspicious. He and Johann aren’t that interested in each other right now, but maybe that will change eventually.

Maybe it’s cheating combining 3 weeks of recap posts into one? But time kept getting away from us as we moved back into our home, regained control of our jungle of a yard, caught up with friends, and brought in a puppy!

We still have ideas for more upcoming content to share about our travels and re-entry into “normal” life — so stay tuned!
