Week #2 – Recap

Week 2 was full of….California.

796 Total miles, 1 National Park, 1 National Forest, 1 HipCamp campsite one massive state.  We are approximately $650 under budget this week.

California…..we drove for what seemed a very long time and still only drove through about ½ of the state.  We spent three nights in Yosemite, which is it’s own thing…..1 night at a HipCamp spot in Grass Valley that had an outdoor shower (LOVE!), and 1 night out back of the beyond in Six Rivers National Forest of Big Foot fame.  If you’re interested, look at the location of the Six River’s National Forest campground (Fish Lake Campground if you’re googling), and you’ll see that it was waaaaaaaaay out there. (41.2643601, -123.6843663) ~ nine miles up a long windy road off AFTER you leave California 96.

Six Rivers National Forest is where the infamous Big Foot video was shot, so there is lots of big foot “stuff” around. Every time we would hear a rustling in the trees we would giggle about whether that was big foot coming to share our supper….spooky…..

Outdoor shower and bathroom at Applegate Valley Farm.

Next week we are out of the State of CA and going up the coast toward Olympic National Park.

Enjoying your posts! Keep it up.
For years, my husband and I attended Balkan Camp in the Mendocino Woodlands, in the redwoods several miles inland on a windy dirt road east of Mendocino. We always drove up from the Bay area, about a 4- to 5-hour drive depending on which route you took, and we imagined ourselves to be nearly at the Oregon border. The folks who had driven south from Arcata and parts north just laughed at us. It’s a BIG state.

Patrick’s Point, north of Eureka, CA was where Becky and I honeymooned in 2002. Spectacular view of the ocean, on a bluff, under the redwoods. Does it get any better? No really, does it, because you’ve certainly put in the miles to know!

    1. Mmmmm……it sounds like perfection…….
